ANTHRACITE MINERS.
NO SETTLEMENT IN SIGHT. (BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPTBIOHT.) (BEUTEB'S TELEQBAAM.) (Received August 10th, 8.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 9. ' A telogram from Atlantic City (New Jersey) says that the hope that the anthracite coal operators and miners might reconcile their differences in time to avert a suspension of work on September Ist has faded. Mr John Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers, informed Mr Samuel Warriner, chairman of the Operators' Conference, that further negotiations were useless until the operators abandon opposition to wages increases, and the adoption of the check-off system.
