Cr. Rankin, moved, and Cr. Manhire seconded, that the by-laws bo altered so os to allow sheep to be driven from. i p.m. to 4 p.m. instead of from 4 p.m. on only. v Tho Mayor said that by altering the by-law they would facilitate the Sale Yards Company by 80 per cent. Tho saleyards had outlived their usefulness in Canterbury. , The position of the yards from a health point of view was untenable. The Council should be very careful in considering the motion. In the division, four were in favour nnd four against the motion. The Mayor gave his casting: vote against and the motion was lost.
