CANTERBURY AND AUCKLAND DRAW.

(srsciu. to "m raess.") AUCKLAND, August 8. -• The Zanol Cup hockey match between Canterbury and Auckland ended in - a draw, one goal each. The game was played under unfavourable conditions, the ■ ground being very heavy and greasy. The teams were: Canterbury—lf. Archer, D. Hore, S. Crook, R. Davis, L. Sutherland, B. Meynell, A. Graliam, J. Cockroft, H. Herdman, L. Coffey, and T. Hewison. Auckland—H. Cooper, W. Gardner, B. Harris, B. Burton, A. Hughes, G. Surman, L. Cliffe, H, Burton, A, Bogers, W. Taylor, and A. Glen., Canterbury were first away, but good checking by Gardner and Burton forced play, back,to the line. The local men advanced.from tlie right, a shot by H. Burton missing the net and crossing"- the ,r line. ; After !-a series of pealties, Hughes hit across to, Glen, who ran to the "visitors'- circle, where Crook stopped them. Hard -hitting removed play to the half line. Glen, with a fine ran, reached tlie circle.and centred, but Bogers was off-side, and with a free hit Canterbury cleared. Clever stick-work by Coffey enabled the visitors to advance, into the local team's -circle, where, after close play, R. Burton cleared. •' Tho scene was immediately ■ shifted to Canterbury's circle, and Archer stopped a hard shot and cleared. A series of attacks by Canterbury followed'till Harris cleared. • Fumbling by Gardner enabled Graham to get away. Tho visitors gained ii free hit, but that proved useless. A Canterbury run headed by Graham gained a penalty corner. Taylor came through and intercepted Coffey and ran to the half line. Hore stopped him, but Clifife took up tho running, and Auckland reached the circle, but Again the shot went wide. ' ,

Another corner followed, and from close, play Crook • cleared to Auckland's twenty-five. Loose play followed, and Canterbury reaehed the local circle. A - shot went wide, and play returned to midfield. •Canterbury's forwards made a sharp raid on tho Auckland citadel. The ball came to Graham, who shot < hard.
