In the international hockey test, played at the Basin Reserve, . the : New Zealand captain (Perrin) won. the. toss and played against the wind. The tpams were:— Now Zealand—Snoolts, Ireland, Perrin, Steel, Gurr, Hore, Jacobsen, Bell, E. S. Watts, C. R. Watts and D. Hood. Australia —H. J. Flockart, H. Riley, J. S. Mills, A. Seaman, J. M. Abel (captain), W. Grant, L. Nettleton, J. Gray, W., Nettleton, A. .M. Craig, J. Miller. ; Play started after Ave minutes'delay owing to both teams forgetting the ball. A Maori girl'produced one, and oil they went. Australia won the bullyoff. The Blacks pressed hard, and a chance was spoilt by Jacobsen giving sticks. Flockart (goal) saved the shot, while Ireland (Otago) cleared beautifully for New Zealand. Craig tried some tricky" work for the Greens, but J. Gray missed a fair chance to scofe.' Both teams were now warmed up, and the soft ground- was robbing the .ball of lots.of pace. J. S. Mills gave sticks in the Blacks' circle, and the first penalty corner gave.E. S. Watts (Auckland) a clear shot, font the .visitors' keeper - fielded well and cleared. The visitors returned to the attack, and W. Nettleton took a free hit. Immediately following this incident the play of the New Zealand forwards changed, and an attack led by Bell (Canterbury) enabled E. S. Watts (Auckland) to shoot a well-timed goal. • Flockart, the Australian goalie, was drawn out, and Bell's goal was shot into a clear net.

New Zealand's second goal came from a frge-hit inside tho circle, and C. R. Watts (Auckland) took the ball, hitting a high shot which gave H. J. Flockart little chance.

New Zealand 2, Australia 0. In the second spell New Zealand started off frith the southerly behind them. Up and down play saw C. ~R. Watts (Auckland) break away and just iniss the net. W. Nettleton was continually breaking, away, but Perrin (Wellington) and Ireland (Otago) kept stopping the rushes. New Zealand again led in the attack, and Bell (Canterbury) uetted a good goal from the edge of the circle. New Zealand 3, .Australia 0. Immediately following this score, E. S. Watts , passed to his brother, C. It. Watts, and lie dribbled in. New Zealand 4, Australia 0. The Blacks' pace and the wind were now telling on the visitors. C. If."Watts had another go for a score, hitting the ball high over the bar. The visitors' first goal camo from J. Miller (left wing), who centred well and enajbled J. Gray to hit a well-directed goal, amidst much enthusiasm. . ■

New Zealand 4, Australia 1. The Blacks again registered a score, Eell (Canterbury) getting the verdict of a doubtful goal. New Zealand 5, Australia 1. The sixth goal was to the credit pf G. B. Watts, who dribbled in aiul got a spectacular score.

New Zealand 6, Australia 1. The referees were Messrs C. Bellamy and.R. Gracie. The best forward of the New Zealand side was C. K. Watts (Auckland), with Bell (Canterbury) next. Of the backs Perrin (Wellington) was the best. Australia's best forward was W. Nettleton. Of tlie halves A. Seaman showed up. In the back division Major Mills played safe. Of the goalkeepers Snooks (Canterbury) had little to do. the backs saving him, while- H. J. Flockart, the visitors' keeper, came out and saved. all possible, .but the forwards gave him much anxiety.
