THEFT FROM ST. PETER'S.
*_ MISSING JEWELS DISCOVERED. (by cable—press association—copxkight.) (australian akd k.z. cable association.) ROME, July 8. Tho Vatican jewels stolen from tho treasure room at St. Peter's have- been recovered. Three of tho thieves were discovered among workmen repairing the treasury. They refused to disclose where the plunder was hidden, but a detective, pretending to he a buyer, got in touch with a shoemaker who was suspected of being the receiver of the stolen goods. The latter revealed the haul, whereupon tho police broke in and seized the precious chalices minus tho gems, which were discovered in a pair of shoes.
[Thieves broke into the treasure room at St. Peter's and stole a quantity of valuables, stated to include the ring of St. Peter, which contains a colossal emerald of incalculable money value.]
