NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. The council of tie Now Zealand Amateur Swimming' Association met last evening',' Mr W. H. Benson presiding. There -were also present—Messrs P. G-. Dunn (South Canterbury), Moss Ballin (South Auckland), A. ii. Wilkinson (Taranaisi), A. K. Jacobson (Manawatu), A. Mac Donald (Wcscland), C. Bryant (Wanganui), J. B. ±tuch-i anan (Nelson), D. Coulter (Canterbury); J. Jackson (Hawko'e Bay), and'B. O'Neill (Wei-" lington). ' A letter was read from the New Zealand Rugby Union inviting the to associate itself in a deputation, to the Minister of Internal- Affaire to obtain Government nasistance to coniine the use of the New Zealand sporting uniform to, amateur sporting bodies who have organisation and. control of New Zealand representatives in any field of sport, » Mr Buchanan: The Rugby Union wish to preserve their title as All Blacks. A member: No. They say future teams are not to bo called All Blacks. . The chairman: I take it the reference to other sports bodies in New Zealand means those running strictly as amateurs. Mr Jacobson: Why do they mention the Rugby Union uniform? We do not want the uniform. They mean the, black and the fern leaf. They • have made •it ambiguous. Mr Ballin: Most sports bodies adopt the black uniform. ~" ' Mr Bryant: Do they consider it h&3 been abused? Mr Ballin: They want only amateur bodies to use it. Mr Jacobson moved: "That this body join with the Rugby Union in their attempt to bavo the uniform, black with the fern leaf, protected us Tno .miforni for New Zealand representatives in any field of amateur sport, and' that Mr P. N. Rundle be appointed to join iho deputation on behalf of this body." This'was seconded by Mr Buchanan and carried. . i It was 'decided that the South and Nelson CentreSj being in default in tho matter of their returns, be deprived of voting powers on th-3 Council, and that the Blenheim Club be struck off the list of affiliated clubs. '
It was decided that steps be taken to reissue the handbook.
Messrs R. B. Wheeley and M. C. Simes waited on the Council to explain the position of tho -United CluS in respect to disagreements that had occurred between the club and tho Canterbury Centre and the East: Christchurch Club.
After hearing the deputation in committee, it was resolved.: —"That, the Council, alter •hearing' the deputation from the United Club, considers that there is a casa to answer, and-instructs-the president of the" Canterbury Centre and the captain of the East Christahurch Club Jo- appear before the Council at its. Ju'.y meeting to answer, such ..case, and in default of an appearance such officials during the pleasure of tho Council." 'lt was. also decided to invite tho United, Club delegates to attend the July meeting.- . Regarding the Bryce Cup competition, it was decided to inform the Canterbury Centra that, tho cup must be awarded to the United Club. '.
