CYCLING AND FOOTBALL. Cold tut fine ■weather prevailed yeetcrday afternoon, when a three-quarter mile cycling handicap race and a football match, Yorkshire v. Lancashire (promoted by the Canterbury Football Association) were ' held. There was a poor o ttendance of the public. Considering the fact that the players of both teams had had no previous practice together, and therefore lacked combination, the footbal] match was fair. The cycling was not so thrilling as it was expected to be, owing to the small number oC- comretitiors. Out of a total of 29 entries only 9 men turned out to race. Cycling. Firet heat—C. T)V6 Yorkshire team kicked off against the wird. The play was not very fast. Neither team showed much combination and the p'av was rather Durin? the first hp.lt' Johnston scored twice for Lancashire. T n tlie second half Chapman t-cored for Yorkshire and Ellis for Larrashire. The game ended: Lancashire 3; Yorkshire 1.
