GENERAL NEWS. The .New Zealand Anglican Bible Class camp opens on the Show Grounds to-day. Over ]SO visitors are expected iind a comprehensive programme of sports has been arranged. At the meeting of' the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society, it was reported that a great amount of poaching had been going on at Lake Tripp or Clearwater, it was resoired to instruct the ranger to visit the locality. Something in the nature of a Christmas treat was accorded the children of the Salvation Army on Tuesday evening, when a Christmas i ree from which was suspended a number of useful presents was arranged in the hall. A very enjoyable musical programme was given by the band and the young people. The proceeds (about £5) are to be devoted to the purchase of reading matter for inmates of the County Hospital and Old Men's Home. The St. Stephen's Anglican Church choir visited the County Hospital and the Tuarangi Home on Tuesday evening, and gave a programme of Christmas music which was greatly enjoyed. Solos were given by the Kev. J. F. Wiseman. Mrs H. Naylor, Mrs A. T. Smith, and Miss Beatrice .Claridge; duets by Mrs Naylor and Mrs A. T. Smith; while Miss E. Claridge played several .violin solos. Mr Wiseman spoke a few cheering words at each place. The matron of the Home (Mrs F. 11. Knight) cordially thanked the choir for its seasonable visit. Land Sale. Under instructions from the Eegistrar of the Supreme Court, acting on behalf of the mortgagee, Messrs J. T. Thomas and Co. sold by auction, on Tuesday afternoon, 870 acres situated near Fairfield, and 1334 acres 1 rood 8 perches situated at AVesterfield, about one mile from the Lagmhor railway station. Both properties were recently owned by Mr E. McElhinney, and were purchased bv Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., for £16,700.
