PERSONAL, The Hon. W. Nosworthy hag recovered from his recent severe cold. Farewell Message. The Ashburton Borough County Councils forwarded the following messages to Lord Jcllicoe and family on the eve of their' departure from New Zealand: Prom the Borough Council, by the Mayor: —On behalf of the citizens of Ashburton, I desire on this. the day of ' your departure from, our shores, to wish you and your family bon voyage, and trust that'your future will be endowed with health and prosperity. As eitizena wo feel that your term in New Zealand has done much to bind this portion of the Empire to the Mother Country, and that your example of loyalty and devotion to duty will lie a splendid lesson for young New Zcalanders. From the County Council, by its chairman (Mr W. G. Gallagher):—Best wishes from Asliburton County for a safe and pleasant voyage, and every happiness in the future. Acclimatisation Society. At the monthly meeting of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society there were preseut Messrs G. H. Hefford (chairman), P. Cookson, F. Crumb, H. P. Arnst, and T. Wilson. The chairman reported upon the recent conference called by the Minister of Marine, to make arrangements for tiie netting or quinnat salmon in Canterbury an<) North Otago rivers. ' A deputation from the Power Board waited upon the Society with a view to carrying electric poles and wires to Hakatere. It was decided to supply the Power Board with a list, of the hutholdprs, to see if the required number of consumers could be obtained. Two applications for sites at the Rangitata river mouth were grantedsubject to the approval of the Grounds Committee. A letter was received from the New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies' Association asking if the Society would be willing to contribute to a combined effort to introduce suitable sporting birds into New Zealand. It was decided to recommend the importation of the Indian hill partridge, and to set. aside £SO as the Society's contribution. Athletics. The Ashburton Amateur Cycling and Athletic Club held a sports meeting in the Domain last evening. Results: — 75yds—First heat: L. Milsom (3yds) 1, C. Campbell (scr) 2, J. Lewis. (Byds) 3.- Second heat: C. Marsden (syds) 1, ,T. Eobilliard (2yds) 2, G. Olds (7yds) 3. Final: J. Eobilliard 1, L. Milsom 2, E. Olds 3. Won by half a yard, a foot separating second and'third. 440yds—.T. Eobilliard (9yds) 1, C. Campbell (scr) 2, M. Farrell (9yds) 3. Farrell led for about 270 yds, but Eobilliard then headed him aid won easily by 2yds, about a foot separating Campbell and Farrell. 1000yds—Field (80yds) 1, G. .H. Nicoll (10yds) 2, E.
