THE PLUNKET SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of tho Eoyal New Zealand Society for the Health of "Women and Children, was held on "Wednesday in the new Municipal Buildings, where the committee were later the guests of the Mayoress, Mrs J. A. Fleaher, at morning tea. Present: Mesdames J. Cracroft Wilson (in the chair), J. A. Flesher, H. T. J. Thacker, R. G. Wolff (Oxford), A. P. Strang (Eangiora), J. H. Blackwell (Kaiapoi), E. Harris (Belfast), G. F. Wright (Sheffield), T. Overton (Ellosmere), B. H. Gilmour (Lyttelton), L. C. Fuldseth (Kaiapoi), A. Jt. Bloxam, E. Harper, J. Stevenson, C. Chilton, G. M. L. Lester, E. J. Cordncr, M. H. Godby, A. H. Bristed, and Miss Bagley. Mrs Cracroft Wilson, the president, ivas heartily welcomed back by the committee after her ■ absence in England. The country members present gavo short accounts of the work in their district and asked that a nurse address the mothers at least four times a year. It was decided to see if the Matron could be spared from her duties at Karitane to attend to this important part of the work of the Society. The secretary reported that the newly-formed Waipara County branch was doing excellent work, and hoped to seud its nurse as far north as Waiau. Goneral satisfaction was expressed by the Committee at the energy shown by Mrs 11. Acton Adams and her committees. The Auckland Branch wrote inviting the Christchurch Committee to the opening ceremony of their Baby Hospital- It was decided to send them a telegram congratulating them on securing so beautiful a Karitane Home, through the bounty of Auckland' citizens. Tho president, gave a brief account of the garden fete to be held in the Christchurch Karitane grounds at Cashmere on Saturday, November Ist, and asked members to help in various ways, which request was responded to gladly. The sub-committee set up to look for new rooms for the nurses reported, on various places they had inspected. It was decided the sub-committee shonld roport again after inspecting other rooms under offer. For the Karitane Baby Hospital Matron Lindshaw, reported 11 babies admitted, 11 discharged, 12 in hospital, two mothers in hospital with their babies for treatment. For the city, Nurse Allen reported 89 new cases and 1862 mothers to the rooms. The country nurse had visited all out-stations.
