General satisfaction is felt at the successes obtained by the Brighton competitors in tho Band, of Hope Competitions on Friday night last, when the Campbell Brothers wn the vocal duet and Wilfred Sherlock the spelling bee. and '-be children's party the action song. Eric Hulm'c secured, eccond place in tho vocal fiolo, Joan Hughes and Muriel Kershaw second in tho duet in character and the chorus party second 'in th« young' people's chorus. ><ori.h Beach has had x ieccnt unpleasant visitation from burglars. Tws> shops in i Jiowhill road (Mr foot, grocer,- «nd Mr Shaw, butcher), being broken into and'gocd* stolen from both places. - i.V verv Successful concert was held in tho Beach School on Friday evening. The programme was arranged by Min3 Broom, of tho teaching staff, and consisted of choruses, songs, recitations and instrumental items by the children. The object i of tiie concert was to raise funds for the ~a.rden fete and sale c-t worjc to bo held at "Saltaire" on November Ist. rhere was a "•cod attendance of parents and others, and all the items were thoroughly appreciated.
