A DAY OF SURPRISES

(SPECIAL TO ''the miss.') AUCKLAND, September S3. Play in the New Zealand Ladies' Golf Championship at Hamilton to-day was again productive of surprises, tho most noticeable being the elimination of Mrs Guy Williams, who was beaten by Miss Snodgrass, of Kotorua, by one up. Mrs Williams still seemed to have a chance at tho seventeenth, but made a weak rnashic shot, and gave her opponent a half iu sixes. Miss Snodgrass seemed to be in difficulties through making her second at tho eighteenth too forceful, but she laid Mrs Williams a stymie and took tho hole and the game. Miss Snodgrass has never before advanced so near as now to championship honours, but her piny in the present tournament has been consistently good and steady. Miss Kay again attracted a crowd this morning, and it is probablo _ no game has aroused so much interest since Kirkwood phiycd for tho New Zealand title at Hamilton. Miss Kay got a beautiful three at the second, which is quite a long hole. She played nerveless and steady golf. She was three up at the turn'for home, and added to her collection the scalp of another firstrat o player by winning comfortably in tho afternoon.

A .notable feature is that nil the players left m xhc semi-finals come from the North this year, representing Rotorua, Auckland, Cambridge, and Whangarci.
