RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES.

Yesterday was dull and cold with a. strong breeze blowing from the north-cast. The ,No. 7 grass gallop was fer fast work, but there was not much doing. The Polymnian was sent twice round the plough at a speed varying from half to three-quarter. He is going freely. Deucalion, who was carrying a small boy, galloped seven furlongs in 1m 33 3-ss, and did it on his bit, while Tarleton, who was carrying little more' than 7st, rattled over five furlongs in good style. Ho is muscling up nicely, and will be very well about Cup time. Trcsham and Paleetrina were separately given half pace work over a distance on the plough, and Chickwheat trotted in tho middle.

Boadicca galloped a, mile with a. welter •weight np in "fairly good time, but ehe was stopping at the finish. Watermint was given a short sprint, and Pilliewinkie rattled homo over* the last three furlongs of a. circuit, the first part being done at a steady pace. Cyrcne, Paper Kose, and another youngster, all three members of J. B. Pearson's team, were sprinted half a mil© in the presence of their owner. Cyrene and Paper Rose, who were carrying welter weights, finished well clear of their stablemate, and it was a satisfactory gallop. Bonito was going better than Kelic at the end of five furlongs run in useful time. Te Anau Lad was given a strong working gallop, and Moorland galloped six furlongs in Ini 14 2-ss. Giantkiller, who was brought Lome by Lytup, galloped six furlongs with a welter weight up in lax 16 2«5«, and did it comfortably. . Last Dart and Ophir were igoing comfortably at any stage of sis furlongs done in 1m 17 2-3s, with welter weights up. Blue Socks and Sayonara schooled together over four flights of hurdles. They finished together, but Blue Socks was easily the better jumper. Winning Hit sprinted the last three furlongs of a circuit, but waa not as&ed for bis best, and Barn Owl did similar work. Escarpment and Rich Prize sprinted three urlongs together without attempting to nako fast time, and Owlscombe had Fireitick as a companion in a sprint over fir* uxlongs, in which they were not doing their )est. _\

KLvalry and Top Score tvere given a working g'allop together over seven iurlongs, and Eed Wink had "Warseer *& a. companion in a similar task.

Joyeuae beat Beaming rather easily over three furlongs, and "Wiakie's Best ran five furlongs -under a strong pull. Retrospect sprinted three furlongs in fairly good time, and Petunia had Bonatio for a. companion in & gallop over «i» furlongs that took lm 16 3-ss. Bonatic had. the outside running.

Bevel boat Gay Lassie very easily over fire furlongs in lm 2 2-ss. He was carrying a fair weight, and was ridden cut. Prince Ferouz, carrying about 8, a.nd> brought homo by Calcncia over the last five furlongs, galloped seven furlongs in lm 30 2-sa. The first two furlongs were run ia 26 2-ss, and the half milo in 50 3-se. Prince Ferouz finished particularly well. Quality and En Eouto were given steady pacing, while Carpentier did trotting exercise on the lead in the middle.

Grim Joke was given steady pacing in the middle.

Limelight, who is just recovering from physic, was given easy pacing on the plough. Stanuist, Footfall, and Tiff were not worked.

A. J. Peart has been engaged to ride Kerry Star in the Hurdle Race on the first day of the Geraldine Meeting. He has gone down to Washdyko to school the gelding.

Riccarton-trained horses that are engaged at Geraldine will go down this morning. Clareina is suffering from an abscess in one of her checks.
