Gibson, TostmasterGeneral, interviewed on bis return from England, said that he could hold out no hope of penny postage. Ho was .trying to run the post office on a business basis. Return to penny postago would mean a, loss of £BOO,OCO annually. The Stockholm Postal Conference's decision to reduce transit charges 25 per cent, would mean a loss of £2O,GCO annually to Australia. The question of Australia withdrawing from tho Postal Union in view of this decision would have to be considered.
