PERSONAL. Constable J. South-work, ■who has been attached to the Ashbnrtcn Police Force for some time, has received notice of his transfer to the Temuku district. • Wanderers Football Club. At a meeting of the Wanderers Football Club, Mr J. McElhinney presiding, Messrs F. Looms, H. Moodie, and J. McElhinney offered their services as linesmen at t-bo fivc-a-'side tournament on Saturday. It was decided to enter three teams in the tournament. , The question of -winding-up the season with a. social and dance was considered, and it was decided to hold an invitation night on a date to be decided by the following committee: —Messrs J. McElhinney, G. V. Iseiisen, J. Wilson, and J. Munro. Mr J. McElhinney offered to provide the gentlemen's prices for the cards, while Mr F. Looms promised to provide the ladies' prizes. V School Committee. A meeting of the East Asliburton School Committee was held on Monday evening, Mr W. Kerr presiding. ' The headmaster reported that since the last vacation there had been a considerable improvement- in the attendance. .The roll was 475, with an average attendance of 445, or 00 per cent. With the increased roll, it was absolutely necessary that more seating accommodation should be provided, more particularly in the infant room, although most of the other rooms were taxed to their utmost. At the same time it would be advisable to urge the Education Board to do away with the old-fashioned seats and to provide the school with dual desks. The report was adopted.' A sub-committee was set up to. consider a. suitable site for the proposed extensions to the playing area. • ■ Defence RifLa Club. The anuual meeting of the Ashburton Dcfenco Eifle Club was held last evening, Mr W. E. Tucker presiding. ' The balance-sheet showed: Receipts £55 ISs Id (including £S 6s 9d brought forward), and expenditure ■ £49 • ISs, leaving a credit balance of £6 0s Id. Assets- amounted to £-3 l'2s 7d, and there were no liabilities.

A team of five men represented the club at the Wairarapa rifle meeting, held at Greytown, and they were successful iu obtaining third prize money. The- club achieved a great, honour by President Keir winning the Mirfield aggregate for the best score over 300, 500, and 600 yards, his score amounting to IS3 points out of "00. That was the only time .since 1010 that a South Island rifleman had won the aggregate. At thai .meeting the fiveman team of■ the club had shot consistently in the team championship .match. The same team represented the club at Trentham, and at .the two meetings they had won £7O in. cash prizes. There were three members of the club in the South Island v. North Island representative teams for the Dawson Shield, and the South Island was successful in winning. The club sent ten men to compete in the Qtago championchip meeting ;in • Dunedin last Easter, and each upheld the club's reputation. Biflenian F. Clark was runner-up in .the championship for the second year in succession, whil.3 No. 1 team secured second place in (lie team match. The telephone system would be installed on the range, which would enable them to get tho matches through without any loss of time. The chairman snd Mr F. Clark congratulated'the club upon its good performances.

Clark; Selection Committee, Messrs H. Cromie, D. S. Keir, and F. Clark.

It was decided that the annual subscription for tow ii aud country first year members should be ss, and all others 10s.
