THE WEATHER. Dry weather continues in A?hburton, save for a slight shower on Saturday evening, registering only one point. Together with the shower there was a chilly southerly wind, and two degrees of frost were recorded on. Sunday morning.

Social and Personal. Miss Hi. Wilson, of "Wellington, is at present spending a few days at her Lome, Xetherby, Ashbnrton. present spending a fow days with friends in Ashburton. Mrs T. "W. Taylor, of Otipu* road, Timaru, is paying a visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs J. W. Blackler, Ashburton. General. The Rugby Sub-Union's banner, which was won by Ashburton Football Club this season, bears the following inscriptions: —Springburn, 1911 and 1912; Rakaia, 1913; Methveu, 1914; and after an interval of five years, on account of the Great War: Jfethven, 1919 and 1923; Old Boys, 1920; and Ashburton, 1921, 1922, and 1924. In a ilying fifty handicap billiards tournament at the Returned Soldiers' Club on Saturday evening, R. Bre'mner (scr) was first, J. Smith (with 12 on) second, and T. Pennell (scr) third. Dominion Day was observed \n Ash* burton yesterday. The schools, banks, and Courthouse were closed, while flags were flown from the various public buildings.
