A BUDDING CHAMPION.

• (sriciAL to ''the ieess. ; AUCKLAND, September 22. Chief interest -ia tho championship to-day centred .in the " game between the Whangarei representative, Miss 0. Kay, who is only fifteen years old, and Mrs Orbell,'of Otago.' Miss Kay had an' easy' victory' by 6 lip and four to play. Mrs Guy" Williams, who won. to-day by the widest'.margin-out of the eighi pairs■' engaged, is expected to play in the, final .■with Miss Kay. The lastnamed' has a;"stylo more or lcs3 unorthodox, and no championship experience, and bcr, easy victories have for these reasons proved, rather disconcerting to .her opponents, who have had much experience of "big golf. On Saturday, Miss Kay also played a _ good game when she defeated Miss Achcson. Miss Kay drives a very long' ball, while tho mashio is a prominent'part of her golfing equipment, '-and. her first and .second.'shots invariably prow advantageous, in .leading to.the short work-, where she also made a. minimum of blemishes. • There is • the further important point in her favour that she docs not become hustled. . Coming Saturday she-played tho better golf, of the two, and. the decision came at the 13th. ' The pair played on, and Miss'Kay's card of Si for IS holes read: •
