TRADE UNION LEGISLATION
♦ f CONFERENCE AFTER THE SESSION. j (PHBSS ASSOCIATION TELKGEi.iI.) WELLINGTON, September 18. A' deputation from the Trades and Labour Gouneil waited on the Hon. G. J. Anderson to enter a protest against any interference with the keeping of union accounts; The speakers mentioned regulations which were proposed, and j also the demand from tho Taxation j Commissioner to suppress certain in- ; formation regarding union -members. j The Minister said he had nothing to do with the latter question. The deputation said a number of the proposals, such as the recording of the names of those attending meetings and the reading of minutes by persons other than secretaries, were impracticable. Generally tho proposals were looked on with distrust, and it was felt that an attempt was being made to procure information which would be used to the disadvantage of unions. The Minister, in reply, said there had been no allusion to regulations in his letter. There had been defalcations, and all they wanted to do was to protect union members. He was not thinking of secretaries at all. They did not care how money was spent so long as the members knew. There was np wish to, injure anyone. It was suggested that the Minister should call a conference to discuss the matter, and this he agreed to do after the session. ,
