ST. ALBANS GUILD CLUB. Tho twenty-second annual meeting of liiD St, Albans Guild Cricket Club was held last evening, Mr G. Hillsdon presiding over an attendance of about/ twenty members. Tho annual report and balance-sheet, which, were adopted oil the motion of tho chairman, showed tho club to have liad a very successful season, although unable to win any of tho competitions for which they entered teams. Tho receipts were set down at £4O 9a fld and +ll6 expendituro £23 to od, leaving 1 a credit balance of £l7. In moving the adoption of the report the chairman eulogised the good work of many of the members and expressed his appreciation. Mr H. Rogers stressed tho need of all members attending practioe, and of members turning' out to matches punctually. Tlie following- officers were elected: Present, Mr C. W. Walls, J. Carrington, C. Dobbs, R. Winter, A. McNae and J. Phelps. Mr G. Hillsdon offered a trophy for j the most improved player in. sonior and junior grades during tho season. Mr H. Rogers presented a cup to Mr C. Butcher in appreciation of his success in performing tho "hat trick" in tho junior grade last season. " The subscriptions were fixed at £1 5s reducible to £1 if paid on or before January 31st for adult players, and 12s Cd reducible to 10s for players under seventeen years of age. It was decided to enter two teams in the City and Suburban- Association's competitions, and the committee were instructed to endeavour to secure a third team. The opening day was fixed for September 27th, at St. Albans Park. Six new members were elected. On the motion of Mr G. Farrar, the meeting expressed its appreciation of the courtesy of tie St. Albans Recreation Club, j The meeting expressed confidence in the president of tho City and Suburban Association, Mr H. Rogers, and also satisfaction in tho financial position cf the club, which had ended "the past season clear of all liabilities. ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION. At the annual meeting of tho Ashburton County Cricket Association last night, Mr H. A. Boddington presided. The annual report said that the competitions presented many drawbacks, and a sub-commit-tee spent considerable time in tryingto evolve a more satisfactory method of running the competitions. However, a solution was not arrived at, and it was left for tho annual meeting to consider tho matter and come to some decision beforo tie beginning of the current season. Four teams took part in tho Studholme Shield competition and eight in the second grade competition. Tinwald Club was successful in winning the Studholnio Shield, while tho second grade competition was won by Ashburton B. A representative first grade matoli wm played

ngainst Malvern, at Sheffield, being won by tho homo club. Two second grado ropreecntativo grumes ".vcro played in Ashburton, one against tho City and Suburban Association, of Christchurch, and the other againsi South Canterbury. Tho fornw-r match was won by Ashburton, whilo tho latter resulted ia a draw. A southern tour, which had to bo abandoned in tho previous season, was accepted by the Association, whon tho time arrived it was found impossible to get players to make tho trip to fulfill the engagements with North and South Otago and Southland. So that the3o Associations should not bo deprived of their games, Mr H. J. Chapman was granted permission to find eleven players to make the tour at their own expense. This team, ®nder the name of Mr 11. J. Chapman's Mid-Canterbury Eleven, played the Ihreo districts, and made a very good shovr, which itcultcd ,in tics against North Otago and Southland, and tho defeat of South Otago by an innings and over a hundred runs. Tho threo Associations expressed great pleasure that tho team had made tho trip, and promised to play rKurn matches against the Ashburton County team when such matches could be arranged. TTic <jvent of the season was the visit of Macartney's Now South "Wales Eleven, which played a two days' fixture against the county on tho oval in February. That match created moro interest than had previously been .taken in any cricket fixture, and it was worthy of noto th<rt tho secretary was a,bk>, in a few lours, to raise the guaranteo of £125, which was sufficient evidence of the public interest in tho game. Fooks, K. Collins, S. Madden, 11. E. C. McElrea, H. O. Orbell, Dr. G. J. iS. Fisher, W. H. Biggins, William Bell, J. B. Nicoll, H. StepLcnson, J. W. Bowden, E. F. Nicoll, 11. Kennedy, J. Cow, J. B. Christian, W. Bumio, J. Bundy, C. B. Ciws, D. Wood, and S. Smith (Mothven). Although there was a good attendance of the public, and in spito of the fact that expenses were Icept down to a minimum, the match resulted in a loss of over £SO, against which the New Zealand Council refunded .a sum of £2B la 3d from the profits of the tour. This latter considerably lessened the. loss to the guarantors. Special thanks were duo to Mrs C. W. Nicoll and her helpers, who attended to the lunch arrangements, and to Mrs H. J. Chapman, who provided afternoon tea, and to Messis E. F. Nicoll and C. G. Andrews, who materially contributed t.o the entertainment of the visitors. Three outside teams, the Auckland touring team, tho Nomads' touring team from Wellington, •and the Malvern Association representatives, would probably be visiting Ashburton during the coming season, and possibly games would be played with the Ellesmero Association and South Canterbury. The junior representatives would play South Canterbury, and City and Suburban teams, and would tike part in the triangular contest for the Shield which had been presented by an anonymous donor for competition between the juruor representatives of the City and Suburban, North Canterbury, ftr.d Ashburton Associations. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The Auckland cricket touring team_ submitted a schedule ~of matches for their coming tour. It was suggested that January 3rd and sth, 1925, bo the dates for a match. It was resolved to play the Nomads cticket touring team on December 31st and January Ist, 1925. The president, Mr H. A.
