GLYCERINE FOR DIABETES.
NEW TREATMENT DISCOVERED. (BY CABL&—PRSSS ABSOCIATTON COPYRIGHT) (BEUTK&'O TBLSGBAM6.) NEW YORK, August 13. A message from Baltimore states that tho important discovery that glycerine may supplement insulin, and in some cases be substituted for it, m the treatment of advanced cases of diabotes, has been made by a Johns Hopkins Hospital physician. The discovery is officially announced as a result of experiments and of the chance discovery that a patient who was being provided with insulin for daily injections was neglecting the , treatment. The patient was found to be temperamentally unfit to receive injections of insulin, but made no objection when given glycerine as a daily diet in balanced dosea. The patient, who was about to die from neglect of insulin, made prompt recovery after taking glycerine, and is now back at work on half-time.
