DEATH OF MR EDWARD WAKEFIELD.
(at Ctßli —PRZS3 ASSOCIATION—COFTBIGHT) (&VSTK&UUI axd k.e. cable association.) LONDON, August 13. The death is reported of Edward Wakefield, formerly a New Zealand journalist and parliamentarian. [The late Mr Wakefield, who was descended from Edward Gibbon Wakefield, the founder of colonisation in New Zealand, sat for Geraldine in tho Colony's sixth Parliament, from 1876 to 1879. From 1879 to 1881, and again froni 1884 to 1887, he represented Selwyn. H« was Colonial Secretary in the Atkinson Ministry, which lasted for a week 5n ii/ugus!tSeptember, 1884. At one time Mr Wakefield was editor of the "Timaru Herald!." He had resided in England for many years before his death.]
