A- Veitoh, M.P. for Wanmnui, is making a good recovery after his recent operation, and aWe to leave the liospital on Tuesday. It wAI be somo weeks, however, before Mr Voiteli will be able to resume his active duties.

Word has been received in Christchurch that the Rev. Harry, Johnson, of the Mt. Eden Congregational Church, Auckland, has tendered his resignation as pastor of that church, ho having accepted a position as organiser for the new forward movement in connexion with the Congregational Union of New Zealand.

The Rev. Mr Hawke, who has heen minister at Trinity Congregational Church, Alicetown, Lower Hutt, for the past eighteen mantlis, has resigned, and proposes to leave shortly foi* South Australia. During his stay afc Lower Hutt he has been instrumental in forming the Western Hutt Advancement Society, and was its organiser and secretary. Mr D. Crauford, who was steward of the ill-fated Ripplo, had served' on the vessel for some months. Previous to his engagement as a steward on the Ripple, he acted in a similar capacity on the Wakatu. During the war ho made several trips as a Bteward _ on troopships. Mr Crawford was a singlo man, 25 vears of age, and resided with his parents at 139 Tinakori road. It is understood that Mr J. 13. Gillies, District Engineer of the "Public Works Department, will retire from the service at the end of the present month, and that Mr H. Skinner, lecturer on ethnology at Otago University, left Dunedin yesterday on his way to Adelaide. where he will preside over th© anthropological section of the biennial conference of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, commencing in that city on the 25tb inst. Mr Skinner will represent the Otago Institute and Polynesian Society. Mr E. H. McDowall, who is on his way Home to continue his Research work, and Mr H. Finlay, who left by the Moeraki for Melbourne on Tuee-? day, will be the other representatives of the Otago Institute.
