PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY.
At the monthly meeting of the Christchurch Photographers' Society, Mr T. VT. Rone piesided over a good attendance. The chief business of the evening was a lecture by Mr W. Taylor, entitled "From Avonhead to the Sea," illustrated by X2O excellent lantern. Siidea. The lecturer dea.t with' tne oourse of the Avon UirougSout its entire length, «nd showed many elides of historic and pictorial interest, ui special note were the views of Avonhead and other picturesque properties on the upper reaches of the river in. the locality of Jtticcarton and i?'endalton. A number of views on the Heathcote river were also displayed. Following his own a'-idee, itt Taylor showed a number of special lantern slides, many of most beautiful tones, sent out to him' by Messrs Wellington and Ward, the well-known manufacturers of photographic material. At the conclusion of hia' lecture, Mr Taylor was accorded a' hearty vote of thanks. The lantern was lent and operated by Mr F. H. Drayton, who also'received a vote oi thanks fox services. • . Tlie monthly competition, "Architecture," brought & large number of prints on view. Mr F. L. Casbolt was appointed judge, and the following awards were made:—Enlargements: Mr T. W. Bowe 1, 2, and 3. Contact prints: Mr ,T. . "W. Howe 1, Miss M. Scott 2 and 3. '. . The president reported on tne arrangements made for the N.Z. inter-club competition, to be held next week in this city, under the management of the Society. Eight clubs had entered for the competition, and their 96 photographs were now in the hands of the judge, Professor J- Shelley. Announcement of the results of the competition would appear in the daily papers nest week. The photographs will- subsequently be on view from August 20th to 23rd, in the concert hall in the Y.M.C.A. buildings, when an opportunity will be given to the general public to inspect this unique collection. A field outing was arranged for to-monow afternoon, at Victoria JPsifc.
