RANGIORA BRANCH. The annua! general meeting of the Eangi* ora branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association was <he'd on Wednesday evening. Mr J. Horrell (president) presided, and there waß fm attendance of about 70 from Tuahiwi, Thorp wero also present: The Mayor, and a number of the members of the Borough Council and of the County Council. The cnnual report, as read by tlu secretary, slated that the membership was 113, but only about half wero financial. The roport also stressed the aims of the Associa-t lion, which was to help each and every on? of the returned soldiers wherever possible. It was also intended, to hold d.fferent social events during tbo winter. The Association was in a eonnd financial position, but nothing to what it should be. On July 13th, the annual ball was held and proved u decided ruocoaa, and thanks ware due to the committee and to the number of outsiders who. so willingly helped. During tha year, owing to hiss transfer to Waikari, the sscretary, 1£; P. Heron, resigned, and Mr W. It. Piks was appointed to the position. The balance-sheet showed receipts £l7l 9s 9d; expenditure £143 10s, leaving a credit Lalsnca of £2O 123 9d.
In moving the edoption of tho report, tha chairman expressed his pleasure at eeei;i;» so many present, aj it augural wefi for thi future of the Association. He was pleased to see that tha finances were satisfactory, but regretted to sec suc:i a large percentage of merobars hsd not paid tlieir fees. Tho report was seconded by Mr J. McLecd and carried. The election of officers resulted a? followaPresident, Mr J. Horrell; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs J. McLeoo, J. Marshal* and W. Gardiner: hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr W. R. Pike; committee. Messrs Hunt, C. 12. Bell. C. Devlin, J. Wood, W. C Prosser. J. C. Thompson, C. Skinner, j liinge, G. K- McAlpine, and W. Dalit was decided to admit honorary members into the Association at uu'i ar.nuii fes of 10s Cd. w An honorarium of £3 Ss was voted to tio secretary. Mr 0. E. Bell said members did not interest themselves enough in th» doinr* of the Association. Questions of vital importance affecting themselves w;re allowed to pass without any protest. Several matters concerning the welisr® o? the Association were discussed, after which a pleasant time waa spent m eodal intercourse. The toast of "The So'dics Association" was proposed by Cr. C. I. Jennings, and responded to by tho prosr'den;; "Local Bodies,"' waa by Mr J. McLeod and responded to by the Mayor, Mr W. Stalke r (Ransr'or? County Co -"cil>, and Cr. P.. Mclntcsh. Other toasts were: "Honorary Members." "The Visitors,' "file Ladies," and "The Press" Mr J. Kf-tua spoke 00 behalf of *he Taahiwi men.
