WINE, OR WATER?

Speaking at the Licensed Victuallers' Association's annual dinner laßt week, the Governor, Major-Gonoral Sir George Bridges, in the course of a speech, is reported to have said: "I think wo all distrust the camouflage and corruption of Prohibition. It iB foreign to our nature, although it dees give us a laugh now and then." Ho referred, in a humorous vein, to tho age-long controversy as to whether wino or water was the hotter beverage.
The subjejt was referred to in the Assembly, Mr J. L. Price asking the .Premier (Mr Guuu) whether he had anything to report regarding General Bridges'a speech. Tho Premier replied that the Government had taken tho earliest opportunity of intimating to the Governor the constitutional position of his Majesty's representative on controversial subjects. It is believed the Governor had no thought of hurting the susceptibilities of any section of the community, and that evidently a moaning has been read into his words which was not intended, I
