FARMERS' UNION. vSJSUiL TO "TSS ?il£i."./ GKEYMOUTH, Aagnst 12. At a meeting of the Ngshers branch of the Farmers'-Union,-'Mr W. Fisher presided. ' • A letter was received from the secretary of the West Coast A. and P. Association, "triti reference to the loading of stock at the show, and also with regard to the classes for fat bullocks and the potato-growing competition. Members generally favoured the trucking of stock on the evening of the second day. of the show, and it ■was finally decided to leave the matter in the hands of the secretary of the Association. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Association for its good work in the interests of the farmers and the district, and the Wellington Hardware Association for the oOgns cup awarded for the- fat bullock competition.

.Mr J. Mulcare, secretary .of the branch, was thanked for his services at the Dominion conference, and for his efforts to secure regular'visits from Government veterinary officers. After considerable discussion it was decided to erect a :building for the purpose of , holding branch ' meetings and the. storage of members' goods, and Messrs Baybutt, Taylor, Williams, and Mulcare were appointed a committee to carry out the "project.

Bicycle Road Sace. A'bicycle road race from Greymouth to Hokitika and return will be held just prior to the closing of nominations for the Timaru to. Chrisfchurch race. At a meeting of the- Greymouth Sports Club last evening, preliminary arrangements were made, and it was decided that the winner of the race and the competitor gaining fastest time shall repre-sent-the Coast in-the Canterbury fixture. At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr W.' Meldrum, S.M., William Gamble, cycle, dealer, sued William- Eeid,' bookseller, for £ls 10s, or in lieu thereof the return'of a bicycle sold to the defendant. Mr W. P. McCarthy appeared for plaintiff, and Mr W. J. Joyce for defendant. After the hearing of lengthy evidence, the plaintiff wa3 non-suited, with costs. Reofton Jockey Club. The monthly meeting, of tho Greymouth Harbour Board was held tonight. Present:. Messrs J. Steer .(chairman), G. Perry, J.Lyall, W. Leitch, D. Tennent, and G. E. Perkins. A deputation of Dobson residents comprised of Messrs IV-1V Boustridge, J. Thompson, and J. Meagher was introduced, and made representations for new leases'in nonnosion with sections held by them at Dobson. - The "chairman informed the deputation that tho sections would he thrown open for selection at an early date. Should there be more than one applicant for each section, the' lease would be'submitted'by public auction at' an upset price. Sections disposed of in this fashion would be loaded with improvements. : x Tho District Railway Engineer wrote stating that the charge- of 2s fid per ton- for quarry stone was exorbitant, and offering Is per ton. • It was decided to adhere to the former figure.
