CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

The fortnightly social evening of the Canterbury Caledonian Society was held on Monday, in the Caledonian Hall, and was attended by eoriie 500 members and ■ their friends. ' Tho president, Mr C. S. Thomas, occupied tho chair, and was supported by Messrs A. McK.ell2.io (vice-president), J. T. Caldow.'and B. Mooro (directors), lhe programme was in the bands' of Jiicasra J. fa. uay and K. Grant, and each of tne lojlowing items wcro well received,-and.in an cases encores were demanded, and in some cases triplo encores:—Selections wcro given by tho Socely's Pipe Hand, ii-ador • J. bnananan and Urum-Major jioss; recitations wcro givon by Mr Frasor-Thompsonr and Mr Mcses; Highland fling, Mi»3 iNancy. Robertson; . Scann Trmbbaia, Master Avon Caklow; Highland reel, Misses Jean Boyland, i'reida Woodcock, Agnes Koss, and Master Avon O-dow, all juvenile members of tho Society; 6 onga were contributed' by Mr ii. At the conclusion of Mrs Scott's item the president took the Opportunity of bidding good-bye to Mr and Mrs Scott,' who are leaving Christohurch to lake up their residenco in°Dunedin, and on. behalf of, the. directors and members of the Society inado a presentation to Mr 3 Scott as a token of appreciation of tho many eervices s'ho had rendered to the Society..during their membership of seven years. Mr Thomas reterred paiticularly to the good work contributed by Mrs Scott 'during the war period when eho was a. very prominent memtier of . tne • Caledonian Society's party, which served in providing concerts tor war funds. Mr Thomas, in presenting Mr 3 Scott with an ebony brush, comb, and mirror, bearing a suitable inscription, wished Mr and Mrs Scott Jong life and happiness in their new sphere, and called lor three cheers, which were heartily given, the ceremony concluding by those responsible for the programme singing "Will Yo No Come Back Again?" The accompanist for the evening was Mrs E.'A.- Smith,
