CANTERBURY BOYS' ASSOCIATION, ANNUAL REPORL "Ihs 1922-2-' season in many respects his been ths mest successful since ths inception of ths Association in 1915," staiss the. sizth annual report or ths Canterbury B~ys' Cric'ot Association. "Ths hriances cf the Association are eof ■ ut>on a s unci

basis, vrhiist ths standard of piay during the season, both by the representatives and in competition garner, -was e±ceeiLngly high. Tht reoiesentativ© teams, under 16 and under 15. had a really gr-ea-j record, never being defeated throu.jftout the season. The number o: teams entered, last seascn vras 24. This compares very favourably vritli previous seasons, as ac the annua! meeting- it was deeded to abolish the under 18 grade, and the 24 teams entered were ■ail composed cf players under 1G years ■ of age. In. the 19C2 23 season, 22 teains -were entered under 16, whilst in the previous year, 1921-22, a record c£ 26 teams under 16 had been established. Entries -were in-

vited for three grades, under 16, under 13 and. under 14, but the response to the list v:as not sufficient to justify its inception. The lar~a number of tet.ms entered in the under 15 competition necessitated its subdivision into two separate grades." The winners in the grades were:—Under 13 (sth grade), Technical School A; under 15 (6th grade), West Christchurch D.H.S.; under 15 (7th grade), St. Andrew's College and Technical School, a. draw. Tho financial as.ect of the season • had also been brijht, £92 10s having been raised in ground charges.

Play durin-g the season was of a very high rd, many centuries being scored, whilst a largo number of hat tricks were also recorded. The outSeld at Hospital Corner sometimes was rather rough, but nevertheless the fielding- at all times was very keen. The regulations regarding th 6 control of the games, at Hospital Corner had bec-n considerably stiffened. Bicycles had been rigidly excluded from the ground, whilst a regulation that a!! players should ■wear criciet shoes, both in games and at practices, had also been enforced. The use of bad language a.nd smoking by players Ird be?n firmly put doxn, and the committee was glad to "state that with the excep-' t : on of a few isolated cases there had be«w little trouble in the maintaining of discipline. Tho improved control of the games at Hospital Corner had been mainly due to the large number of gent'emen who had assisted with the umpiring during the plat season. The past season had without doubt been tho meet successful one that' the representatives had hud. Tho VTo teams, under 16 and under 15, played .altogether seven re : reseiatatives games, and neither team was defeated in anv match. The unde.r 16 team travelled to Kirweo and Itangiora, whilst two teams from the Otago, Boys' Cricket. Le'gue visited Christchurch. Wellington and Otago both challenged' for the Shield, but the' farmer province found that they were unablo to make the trip, and thjir challenge lapsed. The match against Otago was played in Christchurch, and Canterbury succeeded in retaining • the Shield.
