WAR ANNIVERSARY.
——4 — ; — PRIME MINISTER'S MESSAGE. (PKESS ASSOCIATION TELEG&AM.) WELLINGTON, August 11. In response to a request from the Editor of the "Daily Mirror," of London, for a message in connexion with the recent anniversary of the declaration of war against Germany, the Prime Minister forwarded the following cable:— Ten year? ago to-day war was declared against a powerful enemy. The response from British manhood was magnificent. After more than four years of struggle and carnage, victory came to Britain. Already we are inclined to look upon the war as the recollection of an ;6vil dream, but its lessons must not be forgotten, and , Britons, wherever they are located, must continue to honour the memory of ; those who made the supreme sacrifice. Some day another enemy will make his appearance. Attempts have been already made to sap the foundations of the Empire, but as British citizens our duty is clear: to stand fast together and be sufficiently prepared to meet the clash when the call comes.
