All the firewood in St. Leonard's .square had been cut and stacked in the .Council yard, and the trea»stuinps prilled out. ' The Standing Committee reported that the Library . Committee had granted the free use of the. library building at Redchffs for the sewerage poll, on the ISth inst., and for receiving gas and electric- light accounts. The ■ committee ceoulcl not recommend , the Council to shift "back the fence fronting Mr MoUldcy's property in Heberden avenue, where the building line had been set back. It was. recommended that Mr W. G. Black's application for water connexion on land fronting Clifton terrace be granted, a meter to be installed. On the recommendation of the Health Inspector, it was decided 10 allow Mr Hannah to connect his shop with tta side channel, pending the result of the poll on the liedcliffs sewerage loan. A.sub-committee was appointed to consider and report on the proposals for sewerage works in the back portion of Sumner. It was decided to take advantage of tho offer ■of scoria from the tramway quarry for the improvement of unformed streets. A report was received from Inspector T. J. Watts, superintendent of the United Fire Brigades' Association of .Sew Zealand, complimenting the Council on the efficiency of the . local fire brigade. It was decided to acknowledge the -letter, arid to ezpress the Council's appreciation of the inspector's favourable opinion, and to notify the Brigade of the Council's appreciation, of the efficient manner in'which it came through the tost.

A letter was received from the Christchurch City Council regarding heavy traffic by-laws. Cr. Koswell reported on the meeting held,' and, a vote of . thanl'e waa passed t> him, for the interest he had taken on the Council's behalf. ' The Paparua County Council wrote regarding a deputation to tho Prime Minister on the Waimaiariri power scheme, and invited the Council to appoint a delegate. . The Waii;ewa County Council wrote regarding a conference cf local authorities on hospital matters. The town clerk was instructed to _gct,in touch with the County Council and enquire how many local bodies intended being' present.
