ADAMS, LTD.'S, ANNUAL BALL.

Hie Winter Garden was the scene of a very successful dance on Thursday ovening, when the staff of Adams, Ltd., held their annual bail. The dancing room and lounge were gaily decorated and Bailey's Jazz Band supplied the latest music. The committee and secretary are to be greatly congratulated on the success of their efforts. SUMNER FIRE BRIGADE SOCIAL.

The interior* of the Sumner Town Hall presented a cosy appearance last pvening, when the Sumner Volunteer "Fire Brigade held its annual , social. The evening -was spent in dancinc. excellent music being supplied by Wells' orchestra and the Christchurch Banjo Band. The hall presented a very gay appearance with narrow red and blue streamers interspersed with vari-colour-ed balloons and pom-poms. Bound the walls were placed bunches of greenery and gaily-hued flags. The lights were shaded with crimson shades, while in the supper room, where a delicious supper was spread, the decorations were of blue paper, with blue-shaded lights. Later in the evening the Mayor . (Mr W. H. Nicholson) and the councillors attended. With the councillors came: Tho. Bev. W. McAra (president) and Mr J. C. McDonald (hon. secretary) (representing the Sumner Burgesses' Association), Messrs H. J. Marriner, F. A. Tapson (representing the Cricket Club), H. Buttle (representing the LifeSaving Club). There were also present representatives from the City, Addington, and New Brighton Tire Brigades. -

On Tuesday a very pleasant evening wns spent'at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Clark, Seaview road, Now Brighton, to celebrate tlio coming-of-age of their daughter, Ruth. Many guests went from town, although the weather was very inclement. The winnerb of the competitions were Miss E. Hore, Mrs J. Ws® Ball, and the Rev. r'. T. Road. Items were given by Altss E. Bore, Miss Durmer, jmd Mr H. McCaffrey. During supper the Rev. F. T. Read, on behalf of the. guests. congratulated Miss Clark upon attaining her majority and also upon her engagement to Mr Norman Mo Kenzie.
