Mr L. A. Holford, who for the'past four years has been accountant at the Ashburton branch of Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., has been transferred, on promotion, to the • position of accountant at the Taumarunui branch, of Abraham, Williams, Ltd., and will leave for the North Island in about a week's time. Mr Holford. will be missed in cricket circles. He represented the county. against the Australians, anck showed much promise. Found Dead. The body of a, man named Frank Butcher was found in a wharc at Seafield early yesterday morning hanging by a rope fixed to a rafter in the roof. It transpires that the man had been carrying his swag through _ the district, and called at the house of Mr J. Bruce, Seafield,, for food and shelter. The whare was assigned to him, and he stayed dver the week-end, and his body was discovered at about halfpast eight. • The deceased is practically unknown, and is' described as about 50 years of age. The heaviest frost so far this winter was experienced yesterday morning, when 13 degrees were recorded.: On Sunday 19 points of rain were record' ed, and the barometer was 30.21, but dropped to 30.09 yestefday.
