DO THEY LOVE THEIR BABIES?
TO THB IDITOa 0T "THE PBBSS." Sir,—lt was so fine to-day that 1 took a walk, and was thoroughly enjoying myself when 1 beheld a young mother wheeling a perambulator in which was a really splendid baby with a dummy in its mouth. That spoilt the sunshine for me, and you'll understand now much I wished to tell the lady of the adenoids and other ills she was inflicting on her child—and ho* I funked it. But to-night it has occurred to me that if you would print these few lines, not only the one I observed, but also many other young mothers, might take a thought and mend thtir ways. Each one should ask herself: "Do I love my baby, or do I prefer my own comfort to-day to its welfare for a lifetime?" Thus faced. the problem will be solved hv the flinging of the dummy into the fire, aid the true mother who does that will be rewarded ultimately bv the health and vigour of her child. The cruel creature who decides the other way ought to have a stone tied round her neck and be cast into the sea. The baby would be better without her.—Yours, etc., A.D. 1924. Mav'Uth.
