SUMNER ITEMS.

All Saints' Church. The harvest thanksgiving services were held last Sunday, the church being beautifully decorated with an abundance of corn, flowers, and fruit. Special music was contributed, including the anthem "0, Lord, How Manifold." The church was filled to its utmost capacity at both the morning and evening services, the vicar preaching at the former and the Rev. Canon Galwey at the latter. A children's service was held during the afternoon, the children bringing gifts which, with the other produce, was next day taken to St. Saviour's Orphanage. Chrysanthemum Exhibition. A committee of ladies met this week and made arrangements for the stalls at the forthcoming exhibition of chrysanthemums in the Parish Room on May 7th. Much interest is being displayed, and it is hoped for a record exhibit of blooms.

Anzac Day. Arrangements for the service on the morning of Anzac Day are well in hand. The service wil'l be immediately after the arrival of the first car from town, about 10 a.m. Redcliffs Mission Room. The harvest thanksgiving service was held last Sunday, when the Rev. C. J. The Sunnier Marine Band will t>lay the following programme at Redcliffs to-morrow, at 3 p.m.: —March, "The Contemptibles" (Stanley); hymn, "Lead, Kindly Light" (Sandon); air varie, "Brightly Gleams Our Banner" (Round); cornet solo, "II Bacio" (Arditi); march, "2nd Battalion" (Homann); selection, "Songs of Other Days" (Round); fantasia, "Balmoral" (Ravner); hvmn. "Fierce Raged the Tempest" (Dvkes); march, "The Middy" (Alford). The learners' class now numbers 18, and it is hoped that within the next few days more instruments will come to hand.

Grand Concert. A concert i 3 to be held next Thursday evening in aid of the Rannerdale men. The entire programme is to be given by the Christehurch Salvation Army Orchestra and Songsters. Mr J. Taylor is to conduct, and an evening of enjoyment is promised to all who attend. Rannerdale Men. This week saw the departure of the Eannerdale men, who, after three months' stay in the borough, will be much missed by all who came in contact with them. Burgesses' Association. The Rev. W. McAra presided at the meeting of the Burgesses' Association. The Tramway Board wrote concerning the petition for an alteration in the present tram stop. The letter was considered satisfactory. Mr H. C. Jones was deputed to endeavour to arrange for a lecture on "The Canterbury Pioneers.'' Matters affecting St. Leonard's square and the beach were discussed at length, and it was decided to ask the Council to raise a small loan to cover the expense of remodelling the square and erecting up-to-date bathing accommodation on the beach.

Gala Committee. The Mayor (Mr H. W. Nicholson) presided over a meeting of the Gala Committee. Mr F. A. Tapson submitted the balance-sheet, which showed a satisfactory balance. The allocation of fifty per cent, of the profits to the Sumner United Sports Association for improvements at St. Leonard's square was agreed to. The Mayor moved a vote of thanks to the lady helpers, without whose support, he said, the management would have been severely handicapped. The committee agreed that it should record its deep sense of the valuable help received from the secretary (Mr 11. J. Williams), the treasurers (Messrs F. A. Tapson and J. D. Lawrence) and all those officials who helped during the three days' effort. It was decided to write to Mr J. Langdale, thanking him for his sheep used at the guessing pen, and to Mr .Chapman for his valuable assistance in the side-shows. Mr Jones moved that the committee record its hearty appreciation of the Mayor's practical help and assistance. The motion was carried by acclamation.
