RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
MINISTER TO MAKE STATEMENT. (PRSSS ASSOCIATION- TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, March Q. Owing to the fact that the negotiations between the various sections of the railway ©mpieyees and the Minister with reference to wnges and conditions of employment have been occupying a considerable amount of tho Minister's time, the latter'a promised statement regarding a programme of railway construction is m some danger of being delayed. Mr -Uoates has indicated that he is desirous of presenting his ' proposals for prosecuting railway works in their order of urgency this month. The abatement may be ready at the end of this month, it is likely to he a document of a very comprehensive nature showing intimate detail by means of'graphs what has been the earning power of the various sections of the railway throughout the,, country in the last 32 years. The statement will be a result of the very thorough inapections whach the Minister has made of the different branches of the railway system, and will set forth exactly what are considered, m the Minister's opinion, to be the requirements of each district from a railway development point of view. *^
