POWER FOR GREY DISTRICT.
ARNOLD SCHEME ABANDONED.
(special to "the pmss.") (JBE¥MOUTH, Mar«sh 6,. At a mooting of the Grey Electric Power Board, held this evening, the. report of the engineers who have been engaged in boring operations in. the bed of- the Arnold river, which it was proposed to utilise for the generation oi electricity for Greymquth and district, was submitted, and proved unfavourable. The outcome of the Board's deliberations was the abandonment of the original site, which was considered of a limited storage capacity, and lacking in space to provide sufficient spillway to take floods that are likely to occur in the Arnold river.
A new site was investigated, and proved to be too expensive for the present financial resources of the Board.
It was therefore decided to adopt an amended steam power scheme of 600 kilowatts initial capacity, with provision for an extension of SQO kilowatts when required. A committee was set up to investigate suitable sites.
