EXTENSION OF POWER STATION. PROGRESS OF WORKS. The additions to the existing substation at Addington comprise one of the important works in connexion with the extension of the Lake Coleridge power station, and the contractors, Messrs J. and W. Jamieson, have commenced the work at Addington. Owipg to the heavy character of the machinery special concrete foundations are being laid down.

The report dealing with the progress made to the end of with the work in connexion with the No. 2 tunnel at Lake Coleridge indicates that operations are well in*hand. By February 29th the contractors, Messrs Beban and party, had driven 124 lineal feet in the adit at the outlet end; the centre shaft had been sunk a distance of 15} ft. and the intake shaft 9ift. The road giving access to the outlet of the new tunnel and to the snrge chamber is practically completed; and the removal of the tram line, laid down in connexion wilh the No. 1 tunnel, to the far side of the new pipe line is well in hand and should be completed during the present month. At the intake to the new tunnel, which is 150 ft out from the shore of the lake, the boring for the location of rock (which is being done from a punt) has been commenced. In preparation for the excavation of the foundation for the extension of the Power House, the site has been cleared and laid off. To date there have been erected eleven 4-roomed houses and twelve 2-roomed cottages—sufficient to accommodate 100 workers: at present there are about 100 men on the job. The buildings remaining to be erected are for the accommodation of the administrative staff.

The latest report regarding the level of the water in Lake Coleridge is to the effect, that on Sunday last it stood at 1669ft—one foot below the normal level.
