PERSONAL. Richard J. Horrill, s pupil of the Technical School, has been informed that in the Examination of the City and Guilds of London Institute, held last May, he obtained a pass in carpentry and joinery, Grade I. School Sports. Saturday 'will be a red-letter day among the children of the Mid-Canter-bury public schools, when the third annual sports gathering will bo held on the Domain oval. There are over 2000 entries. There are nearly 100 events on the programme, and nearly thirty schools will take part at the meeting. The meeting is being run by tho teachers, and the arrangements are very complete. The sports will commence at 10 a.m., and a close day will be observed on the domain. Last year tho sports had to he abandoned on account of bad weather and all the preliminary expenses fell on the Association. Bowling. It has been decided to play the Waimate Club for the Bristol Cup to-mor-row at Ashburton. The Ashburton East Swimming Club will hold an evening meeting in the Hainpstead Memorial Baths to-morrow. The events to be contested will be 25 and 50yds club handicaps, an ogg-and-spoon race, and a diving competition. Tho fourth series of tho races for the Hunt and Hardy Shiolds will also be held. Two additional gas-rings for the uso of picnickers have been installed in the Domain. Ono is near the bowling green and the other noar the children's paddling pond. Under the supervision of Mr C. Branigan, rabbit inspector, the Ashburton County Council is to commence work this week on the destruction of rabbits in plantations in the Westerfield, Mayfield, and Cavendish districts. Cdrrots poisoned with strychnine are to be used.
