SAVED FROM THE SEA.

FOUR DAYS WITHOUT FOOD.

(BT CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.;

SYDNEY, March 3

Captain Dempsey, sailing a 24ft boat from Brisbane to Sydney, capsized off Byron Bay, and was washed ashoro after clinging for four days to the upturned boat, without food or water. He was almost dead from exhaustion and badly bruised, but is recovering. Before visiting Brisbane he had been cruising in the South Sea Islands, the last port of call being Samarai. On bis way to Brisbane he ran on a reef near Mackay, shattering the keel. After repairs had been effected he continued the voyage until the centreboard was carried away. The craft then drifted for some time, until capsized by a heavy sea.
