ATHLETICS.
NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. (press association telegbam.) WELLINGTON, March 3. The Council of the New? Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met to-night. The Otago Centre applied for the reinstatement of J. I'. Wayte, who desired to form a club at Gore, which, wrote the secretary, would bo a great boon for athletics. In Invercargill they were up against professionalism, as every little centre in Southland was holding professional meetings—2s in a 50-inil«s radius. Wayte could do 5 feet 8 inches high and jump about H feet hop, step, and jump, so he was no mean performer. ' The committee recommended the reinstatement. The request was agreed to.
It was agreed to nominate S. Rose and P. Munro to the Olympic Council for the Empire Games and the Olympic Games. Other nominations will be made after the Dunedin Championships on March loth.
