It is a great wonder that whaling has not long ago been revived in the Pacific, in the Western area, says the Samoan correspondent of the Auckland "Star." Frequently schools of whales pass through the FJji group. Last month, as the Greyhound was slightly south of the island of Taviuni, over 40 big ones were sighte'd. The smallest was placed at 40 feet long. They passed quite close to the vessel; in fact, so close that those on board were a little- dubious as to their safety.
