The Mayor of Christchurch will tender a civic welcome to the Earl and Countess of Harrowby, Lady Frances Ryder, and Sir John and Lady liandles, in the City Council Chamber, Oxford terrace, at 3 p.m. to-day.

Lord and Lady Harrowby and their daughter, Lady Frances Ryder, will be accorded a reception in the Officers' Club Rooms, Worcester street, at eight o'clock this evening. All officers are invited, and Expeditionary Force officers are especially requested to be present.

Mrs J. Woodhouse is spending a, few days with her sister, Mrs George Aitken, "Thornton," Fendalton.

The Earl of speaking at the civic reception in Dunedin, yesterday, mentioned that Lady Cassillis visited Dunedin years ago as the guest of Lady Williams. That visit was at the time that Lord Glasgow came out as Governor. Lady Cassillis (then Miss Stewart) was with the Governor's party. Mr and Mrs C. Worth, of Newmarket, Auckland, are spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs A. W. Lane, Rosball street.

Mrs E. Baird Friberg and Miss Betty Friberg returned from the "West Coast yesterday. Mrs Friberg has been sketching at Lake Kanieri and Lake Brunner.

Miss Doris Hill (New Brighton) is leaving Christchurch on Saturday for Fiji. She will leave Auckland by the Tofua on February -6th.

Mrs and Miss Williamson _ (Kaikoura) are amongst recent arrivals at the Royal Hotel. The Christchurch Nursing Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade resumed practice on Tuesday, after the Christmas vacation. Mrs Bishop, lady superintendent, presided. Good wishes were received from staff-officers, and arrangements were made for members to collect on Ambulance Day. The evening was devoted to practical home nursing and roller bandaging.
