EXCURSION FARES.
TO THE OB OP "THE PBESS." Sir, — As t . ;vho had intended making an excursion to Timaru some Saturday, provided the' Railway Department ran an excursion similar to that of the Bakers' and PastrycooEs' Union, I was greatly disappointed to find on reading the advertisement, in your paper this morning, tSat the fares from Christchurch would be 15s 6d and 10s 6d return. If a small Union can manage to run an excursion train to Timaru for 7s 6d, surely the Railway Department ought to be able to do even better than that. I am of the opinion that the Departrnent is going to kill what would have been a benefit to the Department, and a boon to many people in Christchurch. Hoping you will chastise the Department through the columns of your paper for. its crass stupidity. —Yours, FIVE SHILLINGS. Christchurch,. January 31st, 1924.
