DEATHS BY DROWNING.
The loss of life by drowning vrns referred to iii Wanganui by Mr J. C. Bichardson, Deputy-Mayor, when speaking at the reception to the visiting swimmers. Subsequently the president of the local centre referred to the remarks made by the Deputy-Mayor, and said the figures were appalling. Ho had obtained statistics from Wellington, and these spoke eloquently of the serious loss the country had sustained by so many promising lives being lost through drowning. These figures were aa follows, the deaths of Maoris and suicidal deaths not being included:—■
