FIRES.
(PBKSa ASSOCIATIOU TBLEGOAII.) WELLINGTON, January 30., A 20-roomed house in Thompson street, owned and cccupied by Stanley' Hempton was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. Hempton and another man were the only occupants at the time. Nothing was saved but the blankets which they seized in making a hurried escape. The insurances on the building amounted to £7OOO in the Commercial Union Assurance Co.', and on the, contents £750 with the State Insurance Office. BACON FACTORY LOST. The Downs Co-operative bacon factory at Willowburn, near Toowoombs, was gutted by fire. The damage totalled s £30,000.
