Forty defiant Mesopotamian Sheikhs were summoned to meet tho Government, but only three responded. In view of the necessity for ensuring the safety of the visiting officials, and to prevent warlike preparations, the Government ordered air action and the Air Force moved forward. While troops protected the aerodromes the aeroplanes bombed continuously for 24 hours. All tho Sheikhs surrendered. Mounted police visited other districts and received other Sheikhs' assurances of implicit obedienco to the Government.
