A number of remarkable letters writton by list at various times have come into the possession of the police, who, believing that they throw considerable light on liis mental condition, are submitting them for examination to an alienist. Though the polio© have tracked up numbers of supposed clues, and though the keenest watch is kept everywhere, there has been no trace of List. A special watch is kept on the Yarra, in view of tho fact that if the murderer drowned himself, the body will float in a given time. \
