SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE.
TENDERS AND ''LOG-ROLLING."
(BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYEIGICT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.)
SYDNEY, January 29
It is now freely stated that considerable ''log-rolling" is rampant in connexion with tenders for the harbour bridge. Persistent efforts are being piade to induce the Minister of Works anii members of the Government party to accept an Australian tender, irrespective of other conditions.
It is stated that, even if an Australian tender lie accepted, it will be in name only, as there is a strong likelihood of an Australian syndicate transferring the contract to an outside firm after deducting a slice of the contract as the price for its efforts.
Sir George Fuller (Prime Minister of New South Wales), referring to the matter, stated that the Government would adhere to the promise' made when inviting tenders. All tenderers understood the conditions before submitting tenders. Sir George said: "It would be a wicked thing to think of accepting the' tendpr on any other terms than thoge submitted when the tenders closed."
[The tender of an English firm, Sir William Arroli and Company, lias been accepted for' the construction .of the Sydney harbour bridge.]
