TE KUITI, January 25. At the inquest to-day on the body of Patrick Duffy, who committed suicide yesterday by swallowing poison, the principal witness was R. J. Ferriss. labourer, who said ho knew deceased slightly. Duffv accosted him in tlio main street saying "All the detectives and police in New Zealand are after me. Detectives from Wanganui too." He gave witness £ll and a watch to mind. Duffy did not return and tlio money was handed to the police. The police stated that, Duffy was a labourer employed at Malioenui by the Public Works Department and came from Whangamomona, in the "Wanganui _distri'rt. Nothing was known against him. He had no relatives in the Dominion. A verdict of suicide whilst depressed was returned. The theory that deceased may have been the murderer of Mrs Oatcs does not gain official support, though impressions of his finger prints were otained.
