In Townsville, James Berry has commenced an action against W. J. Fearnley, as president of the North Queensland Racing Association. The plaintiff asks that the life disqualification imposed on him over the Etol case should bo declared invalid, and is also claiming £IOOO damages. When False Alarm (Demosthenes or Finland —Gossip) was sold for 1300 guineas as a yearling at Randwick, it was naturally expected he would eventually prove something out of the common, says "Pilot" in the Sydney "Referee." He was unsuccessful at two years, and at three was resold for 525 guineas to Mr W. Thompson, for whom, at that age, he won a race at Warrnambool, but went through last season without a win. At "Woodend recently False Alarm, who is now five, added, to his credit account by pulling off a mile Encourage Welter, worth £BS to the winner. He had 9st 41b (minimum 7st), and the class was of no account. At the Wallscnd Meeting (N.S.W.) on November 24th, Billoonbah, by Charlemagne 11., won the Shorts Handicap, and was ridden by Orrell, the horseman who rode for a few months last season in New Zealand. Achilles was represented by a winner at the Albion Park races on November 24th, in Lady Achilles, who finished first in the Turf Club Handicap, run over a mile and 57yds. Reports from Cambridge indicate that G. Jone3, in addition to working Starland, Tarleton, and Brushwood Boy '(Nassau —Mountain Dream), is giving Royal Box an opportunity to display his aptitude over hurdles. If he ,can jump slightly better than his stable mate Starland, he should not be long in making good in his new venture. It is reported from the Waikatothat R. Hannon intends appealing to the Racing Conference against the disqualification of his two-year-olds Quinette and Abbey Bell, who ran first and second on the concluding, day of the Hamilton.
